The Sacerdote Masseria is a typical 17th century building: the date of construction is marked on the chimney. Designed to house livestock, its large rooms retain their original shape, which has not been altered in any way. It appears that the building was subsequently inhabited by a priest. In fact it is still known today as the “Masseria Sacerdote” (The Priest’s Masseria”), while the country lane which leads to it is known as the “Viale del Sacerdote” (“The Priest’s Road”).
The building blends harmoniously with its natural environment and is located away from the bustle of the towns and villages. During renovation, authorised by the Superintendency for Cultural and Environmental Heritage, great care was taken to preserve the masseria’s original character. It is a perfect place for a relaxing holiday for those who love unspoilt nature.
The area around the masseria is paved with the original stones and is enclosed by seven trulli which are amongst the oldest buildings to be found locally.
The “jazzo” (where the farm animals originally gave birth to their young) has been converted into a “solarium”; both this and the other garden areas, which are all at the disposal of guests, are marked off by dry stone walls. The masseria is located in the south-east of the Murge, amid typically Apulian groves of cherry, almond and olive trees. We can accommodate up to 13 guests. Two of the trulli offer double bed accommodation; a first-floor room with two single beds and a single sofa-bed, an elegant bathroom area and a small stone terrace with spectacular views. In addition, we have a self-contained apartment characterized by an en suite double bedroom, a lounge/double bedroom with a fireplace and a single sofa-bed and a cosy kitchen area with hob, oven and fridge.
Accomodation, utilities and breakfast are of a high level.
Our varied organic breakfast is served in the owners’ comfortable kitchen or in the open air patio area depending of the season. Guests will enjoy a breakfast made of a variety of local produce including a selection of bread, butter, crisp-breads, cereals, homemade jams and cakes, milk and yoghurt, fresh fruit from our orchards or from the local market, fresh juice, tea and coffee.
Twelve bicycles are available free of charge to guests, and we are happy to offer suggestions on cycling routes of particular interest. There is free car parking behind the masseria. A minibus may be hired for visiting surrounding areas or for trips further afield.
