MOLANOCE WATER MILL The mill of Molanoce is an old water-mill set in a 12th century building, a stone and wood structure dating back to the late Roman period. The place-name "Molanoce" indicates the place where, in the Middle Ages, walnuts were crushed to produce oil for votive lamps. From the 17th century onward it became a water-mill for grinding grain, spelt and maize. Nowadays, the restored apartments are the ideal setting for exclusive and pleasant holidays in the heart of Italy. E’ possibile visitare i locali del Molino di Molanoce grazie a visite guidate (la domenica pomeriggio ed ogni terzo sabato del mese). La zona in cui sorge il Molino è famosa per l'olio, i formaggi, i funghi, i tartufi, le carni, e vini come il Grechetto ed il Sagrantino. Nei dintorni, da 1 a 10 km, è possibile visitare: la Foresta Fossile di Dunarobba, Carsulae (città Romana riportata alla luce già dal 1800), i castelli di Casigliano, di Sismano, e di Mezzanelli; le Abbazzie Benedettine di Villa San Faustino, dei Santi Fidenzio e Terenzio, di Santa Illuminata, di Santa Maria in Pantano; le Catacombe Romano-Cristiane del III Sec. a.C., il Ponte romano detto "Fonnaia", le Terme di Sangemini, le Terme di San Faustino. Nel raggio da 10 a 40 km, i principali centri dell’Umbria: Perugina, Assisi,Spoleto, Todi, Orvieto, Montefalco, Deruta, Torgiano e La Cascata delle Marmore. Il Lago Trasimeno dista 50 km. The Mill of Molanoce premises are available for guided tours (only Sunday afternoons and each third Saturday). The surroundings are famous for producing olive-oil, cheese, mushroooms, truffles and wine such as Grechetto and Sagrantino. In the surroundings, from 1 to 10 km, it is possible to visit: the Fossile-Forest of Dunarobba, Carsulae an ancient Roman city descovered in the 1800, the Castles of Casigliano, Sismano and Mezzanelli, the Benedictines Abbeys of Villa S. Faustino, of S.Fidenzio and Terenzio, S. Illuminata and S. Maria in Pantano, the Christian-Roman Catacombs of the III Century b.c., the Roman Bridge of "Fonnaia", the Baths of Sangemini and Sanfaustino. From 10 to 40 km, the most important Umbrian towns: Perugia, Assisi, Spoleto, Todi, Orvieto, Montefalco, Deruta, Torgiano, and "Marmore" Waterfalls Lake Trasimeno is about 50 Km distant.
