The crystal clear river Marta flows from a volcanic lake, Bolsena, and rushes under a rose covered-house, spilling through ancient iron grills and surrounding a splendid garden of roses, aurum lilies, lilac, peonies and violets with water lilies and lotus flower in abundance.
[Formerly a fishery (in fact an eel catchery) dating back to medieval and earlier Etruscan times, La Cannara was once the property of the Pope in Rome.]There, in a small garden house, perched alongside the river are only two bedrooms, comfortably and finely furnished, each with its on en-suite bathroom. On the veranda, beside the river, you will be served a delightful breakfast, prepared especially for you by your hosts.Between Marta and Tuscania, in the mysterious region of “Alto Lazio”, not far from Umbria and Tuscany, easily reached from Rome and Orvieto as well as Florence, Siena and Perugia.Eat – Drink – Sleep – Travel; a vast variety of curious places within a short distance in Tuscany, Lazio and Umbria. Not your typical holiday camp…no archery games, no mountain bikes, but, if you like, an opportunity for dialog or time for quiet contemplation.
