Lidi di Comacchio

Comacchio is a comune (municipality) in the Province of Ferrara. It has mediaeval origin, and it retained until the XIX century the character of a floating town, unconnected to land. Today you can appreciate a network of canals and a lot of bridges connecting quarters. Comacchio is also well known for its "lidi". "Lidi di Comacchio" is the name of seven resort in the Province of Ferrara, between Rovigo and Ravenna. About 25 kilometers of beautiful beaches in the Parco del Delta del Po, a protected wetlands region in the Po delta consisting of four parcels of land on the right bank of the Po and to the south. Created by law in 1988, it is managed by a consortium, the Consorzio per la gestione de Parco, to which Ferrara and Ravenna provinces belong as well as nine comuni: Comacchio, Argenta, Ostellato, Goro, Mesola, Codigoro, Ravenna, Alfonsine, and Cervia. In 1999 the park was designated a World Heritage Site by UNESCO and was added to "Ferrara, City of the Renaissance, and its Po Delta. The 53,653 ha (132,580 acres) of the park contain wetlands, forest, dunes and salt pans. It has a high biodiversity, with 1000-1100 plant species and 374 vertebrate species, of which 300 are birds.

is a precious jewel softly set in the warm red of the bricks and the sparkling green of the canals. Of mediaeval origin, it retained until 1821 the character of a floating town unconnected to land. After the Estense era it became part of the Papal States, and in the 17th century they contributed to its urban rebirth with buildings, churches, and bridges including the famous Trepponti. Even today its aspect is outlined by water, a network of canals which supplant the roads, bridges connecting quarters, and terraces of houses that conceal their androni, the long corridors that lead to their interior courtyards.
